billythekid46 - very sweet sentiment - no really, even with Farkel's passing you have to have a shot at him...your cult personality comes shining through...and to suggest Ray Franz went out or fhis way to offend God? Oh I get it, God and the Organisation are one and the same. It is the organisation that offends God by falsely purporting to act in his name. Fraz

Nothing More To Say
by Farkel ini really have nothing much more to say, except to say thank you to all the people who have contributed to me in my threads and all the people whom i battled over the years.
the battles have been most entertaining and enlightening.
i've learned a great deal from them, and i've laughed a great deal from the idiotic attempts of fools to make a coherent argument (think "dubs").. it's been a roller-coaster ride for me over a decade and it has consumed a huge amount of my time.

JW. org: "No, we are not a cult. We do not look to any human as our leader."
by Faithful Witness ini know this has been rehashed, time and again, but i saw this interesting blip on jw.org last night, and did a little thinking about it.... jw.
org answers the important question that so many have... are jehovah's witnesses a cult?.
jehovah's witnesses do not look to any human as their leader.

'We are not a cult because we do not have a single human leader' - classic strawman argument. But it is totally impossible to get my wife to engage with an analysis of what consittutes a cult and whether the org is a cult because of the success of the 'question the moticves of the person to undermine the need to listen to what they have to say' tactic. Whatever I have to say is inspired by Satan and so can be immediatley discounted and ignored. Soooo frustrating!

My wife skipped KH last Sunday and went on a family trip I had arranged but then got depressed in the evening but didn't give a reason. So yesterday she said she is going to an Assembly tomorrow all day. So I asked her whether anyone had contacted her and given her a hard time about not going. She said they had called to ask her why she hadn't gone. I asked her whether that had made her feel guilty. She wouldn't answer. So I suggested to her that they had no right to be calling her up and asking her why she didn't attend and that it wasn't school or work so attendance wasn't compulsory. She didn't answer. I told her I felt sad that she felt that she didn't have any freedom to say no to these people. She didn't answer.
So, thedog1, I can really relate to your comment ' despairing internally at the prison we have locked ourselves into as members of the group.' I am sure that is the way my wife feels but she would never admit it. I really want to help her to break free but feel she is incapable to see the bars of her cell. You don't have that excuse, so what is holding you back from busting out?

Interesting article on Biblical accuracy
by Jon Preston inappearance of camels in genesis called sign of authors' distance from history.biblical scholars have long been aware many of the stories and accounts in the sacred book were not written by eyewitnesses, and according to new research, further evidence of that historical distance has appeared in the form of a hump-backed camel.. new research using radioactive-carbon dating techniques shows the animals weren't domesticated until hundreds of years after the events documented in the book of genesis.the research was published by erez ben-yosef and lidar sapir-hen, archaeologists from tel aviv university in israel.
they believe camels were not domesticated in the eastern mediterranean until the 10th century b.c.. and yet, the hump-backed creatures are mentioned repeatedly alongside abraham, jacob and isaac, indicating the bible's writers and editors were portraying what they saw in their present as how things looked in the past, says a new york times article by john noble wilford:.
these anachronisms are telling evidence that the bible was written or edited long after the events it narrates and is not always reliable as verifiable history.

There are easier ways to discredit the accuracy of accounts in the Bible surely - Giants, people living for 100s of years, the parting of the Red Seas and walking and riding chariots across what would in fact have been a very deep ravine and Noah's Ark - there are no end of examples

Overwhelming Fear of Death
by Perversion of a truth indo any of the posters on here deal with this?
i do, and i hate it.
people (mostly my brother) tells me to not fear death and just to enjoy life and so on, but that doesn't seem to help any.

Fear of death hits us (well actually I am speaking for worldy people here) in a big way a couple of times in our lives - when as kids we first really come fact to face with our mortality rather than as a vague concept, then in middle age when we start to realize our best years are behind us and so we engage in behaviour designed to foll ourselves in thinking we are not that old (for men - affairs with younger women being a classic) but then you get through that and get to acceptance and realize the importance of living in the moment. I think ex-Witnesses who learn TTATT have a delayed appreciation of their own mortality and that if that coincides with middle age (in your case early middle age) then it could be like a double whammy.
The Mexicans have Dia del Muerte (the Day of the Dead) when they carry around skulls with their names on to remind themselves of their inevitable demise as way to increase their appreciation of being alive. so my suggestion is embrace yoru mortality as a way to appreciate better the wonder of being alive. Cheers

What a sad case your Mum has become scaring 6 year old kids with stories of demons and blaming you for the damage caused to family relationships by her shunning you. It must be so hard for you to have to read that crap. She is totally gone and I am not sure for once that jgnat is right (I usually agree wholeheartedly with jgnat) that time and distance will heal this.

Free Will - What a Joke !
by cookiemaster ineverytime i hear jw's talking about free will, i either feel the urge to burst in laughter or feel sick.
each publication keeps talking about how wonderful jokehova is for giving us free will.
the only small thing is that he'll kill you if you don't do exactly what he says.

I still remember when my wife tried to justify her treatment of her disfellowshipped sister, who was disfellowshipped for having tow kids out a wedlock to a man who couldn't get a divorce in the Philippines because there is no divorce, on the grounds that 'it was her choice'. I did a complete double take and pointed out to her that she had been df'd for exactly the same thing but that because I had been able to get a divorce and had married her she had been reinstated. I said 'if it wasn't for me you would be in the same boat.' Just astounding the mental gymnastics she had done to get to he position she could condemn her own sister in that way. Such hypocrisy and lack of compassion! I was pretty outraged.
